The Hot Springs Creek Mitigation is a project for reducing flooding in the Hot Springs area through the use of a system of retention basins. When the Hot Springs Creek tunnel is at maximum capacity, water is forced into Central Avenue. The basins will hold 50% of the water of the Hot Springs Creek, which will both reduce the water available for flooding and give the basins more time to fill. The water can then be pumped back into the creek at a controllable rate, which will prevent major Hot Springs floods in the future. More information can be found here.
